Sock and shoe options for seniors with painful toes

Mother,age 91, has a very painful big toe.

Shoes, slippers and socks are all too tight.

We buy shoes that are too big so they won't touch the big toe.

A variety of specialists have no idea what causes this.

We cut the toe section off of the slippers but then they're difficult to walk in.

All socks are too tight around the ankle.

Doesn't someone make socks that aren't tight at the ankle?
